What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is a hands-on, healing art performed by a Doctor of Chiropractic medicine (DC). Chiropractors are trained to detect and correct misalignments within the spine, as well as the muscles and joints acting upon the spine. Although there are different ways to correct these misalignments, universally, chiropractors are trained to correct misalignments of the spine using low amplitude, quick thrusts, commonly called an “adjustment.” Misalignments of the spine may be the result of or the cause of many conditions, including low back pain, sciatica or leg pain, neck pain and headaches, amongst others. And though chiropractors focus primarily on the mobility and alignment of your spine, as well as other musculoskeletal conditions of the hips, shoulders and other extremity joints, most chiropractors have a good general understanding of many medical conditions and may be a great choice when you need conservative consultation about a current health need.
